How to Get Free Postage Stamps: Legitimate Options

USPS does not offer a general program that gives everyone free Forever stamps. Free Priority Mail boxes and envelopes are packaging, not prepaid postage. Legitimate “free stamps” usually means a limited promotion, collectible giveaway or account credit with stated conditions—not unlimited mailing value.
Separate five different offers
| Offer | What may be free | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| USPS shipping supplies | Eligible branded packaging | Required mail class; postage still must be purchased |
| Collector giveaway | Low-value used or unused collectibles | Shipping, membership and whether items are usable postage |
| Trial postage credit | Limited account balance | Eligibility, expiration, subscription, equipment and cancellation |
| Retail reward | Points or a small discount | Minimum spend, provider identity and total cost |
| “Free Forever stamps” from an unknown seller | Unverified claim | Counterfeit, identity-theft or hidden-fee risk |
Use a verification checklist
Identify the provider independently. Write down who qualifies, the exact postage or collectible object, quantity, start and end date, minimum purchase, shipping, subscription fee and cancellation method. Never pay a “release fee” with gift cards or cryptocurrency for an unsolicited prize.
Do not reuse a stamp removed from mail, even if the cancellation is faint. A decorative printable is not postage. A large discount on current Forever stamps is also a counterfeit warning; see our discount stamp risk guide.
Practical alternatives
Match the mail class and packaging, compare approved sources, and buy only the postage required. Businesses may find service-specific online pricing, but the account, label and mailing rules still apply. Collectors can ask local clubs about educational packets or donated common stamps while treating them as collectibles unless their unused U.S. postage status is established.
